Comprehensive auto insurance save drivers if their car was damaged by willful destruction, hail or fallen trees. That’s why most people should have this coverage. Travel Insurance Coverage Can Overlap

Posted by Amanda Mitchell \\ Sep 22, 2010

Travel insurance plans normally include a package of benefits ranging from trip cancellation, to medical evacuation, to life insurance.  There are many situations a traveler might face where multiple coverage benefits would apply.  For example, a medical emergency could lead to a claim for emergency medical, medical evacuation, trip interruption and even life insurance.  Recently, Travelex included a story from a traveler whose cruise was affected by the earthquake in Chile earlier this year and multiple coverage benefits applied.  The following is an excerpt from the customer review.

We had a couple booked on a 23 day itinerary to South America which we insured with Travel Select. The trip was to begin with a Princess Cruise scheduled to depart from Santiago, Chile on March 2, 2010. Due to the earthquake that disrupted travel throughout South America, our clients were unable to get to their ship before it left. The earliest they could re-join their trip was on March 12 in Montevideo; day 13 of my clients’ 23 day trip. This is where the Travel Select policy really helped out: an earthquake is considered a natural disaster and is covered as a Trip Delay. The real Read more…

Travelex Writes About Travel Delay

Posted by Amanda Mitchell \\ Sep 20, 2010

Most travel insurance plans include travel delay coverage.  This reimburses expenses when a traveler is delayed for a certain amount of time, anywhere from 5 – 24 hours, depending on the plan.  Travelex recently wrote about this benefit in their agent newsletter.

Whether it is a hurricane, earthquake or blizzard that delays your clients’ travels, you can provide them the peace of mind they need when an unexpected delay sidetracks their trip.

Customer Review from Travelex

Posted by Amanda Mitchell \\ Sep 12, 2010

Travel insurance carriers often share customer experiences and testimonials in their newsletters.  The earthquake in Chile earlier this year was an opportunity for Travelex to help travelers whose vacation was affected.  The following is from the Travelex newsletter and is a review from the agent that organized the trip.

Traveling to Antarctica and Easter Island in February was the trip of a lifetime for myself and my group of 32 passengers. When the day of travel had arrived so had one of the biggest snowstorms of the decade. We had to determine how to get everyone to Buenos Aires prior to our departure for Antarctica; 5 travelers had to be rerouted, many of them 1-2 days later. Some arrived without luggage so they did some last-minute shopping in Usushia and from the shop onboard our ship. Antarctica was amazing and when that part of the journey ended, 16 of us headed for Easter Island – the most remote island in the world. Our 3 day tour went beautifully. The day Read more…

Claim Example: Inguinal Hernia Repair in a Dachshund

Posted by Amanda Mitchell \\ Sep 05, 2010

As the final post of our focus on obesity this month, I thought it a good example to use where this hernia could have possibly been prevented through weight management (although such a young dog is likely to have needed surgery no matter what).

An inguinal hernia is a defect in the opening from the abdomen down to the testicular sac and obesity sometimes can change something miniscule and not noticeable into a serious condition that needs surgery to fix the defect.

Details of the claim for Roxy, a 1 year old Dachshund living in Pomona CA:

Seven Corners – 5 Ways to Prevent the Worst Trip of Your Life

Posted by Amanda Mitchell \\ Aug 27, 2010

Travel insurance carriers frequently provide travel tips and advice on their websites.  Seven Corners recently wrote a story with suggestions of how to avoid having a bad vacation.  The following is an excerpt from the story.

  1. Inform a friend in town of your trip and ask them to check up on the house every so often.  Leaving an empty house can become worrisome, especially if your oldest daughter decided it was a good idea to tweet about how worried you are about forgetting to double check whether or not the window on the side of the house was locked before you left for your two week long family vacation.
  2. Make sure your family is updated on vaccinations required to traveling.  Measles, Dysentery, typhoid fever, and Cholera can happen to you in real life — not just to your character and his companions who are deciding whether they should caulk the wagon and float it or to just hire a guide to assist in crossing the river safely.
  3. Arrive at the airport early.  Many factors including parking, security, and long lines contribute to airport congestion.  Plus, you’ll have a bigger window of time to rush back to the house once you’ve realized you left Macaulay Culkin home alone.
  4. Learn a few simple phrases from the native language in the foreign country.  You don’t realize how frustrating it is trying to ask someone of a different language where the restroom is– especially when time is a limiting factor…
  5. Take caution of what you are eating or drinking in another country.  Bottled water and fully cooked foods along with frequently used hand sanitizer can prevent the exact situation where following tip #4 becomes a life and death scenario.

HTH Travel Alerts – Government Warning Issued for Yemen

Posted by Amanda Mitchell \\ Aug 26, 2010

Travel insurance carriers often provide information about current events that affect coverage.  This can include weather events, civil or political unrest or health warnings.  Such travel alerts are available in newsletters, blogs or on the carrier’s website.  The following is a travel alert from HTH regarding the Government Warning Issued for Yemen.

August 24, 2010. Government Warning Issued for Yemen

U.S. Embassy Sana’a released the following Warden Message on August 24, 2010:

Other interesting changes in the Embrace Pet Insurance policies

Posted by Amanda Mitchell \\ Aug 20, 2010

You’d think that after the last 6 posts on the pawsome changes to our policies in our move to RLI (see Embrace has a new insurance partner – A+ rated RLI Corp), I’d have exhausted the list by now but there’s still more:

  • you can now get a policy for a 6 week old pet and up (used to be 8 weeks)
  • we have new deductibles, including a $1,000 a year deductible. The premiums on these sweet policies are really really low
  • and did I mention we cover prescription diet cat and dog food in our Wellness Rewards Plus plan, as well as gastropexy, OFA and PennHIP x-rays, and umbilical cord repair? I probably did but I really like those new additions! :D

OK,  back to work now. J
